A brief description of the green building rating system(s) used and/or a list of certified buildings and ratings:

Harvey Mudd College uses LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) as its green building rating system. LEED is designed to encourage sustainable construction and operational practices among builders and building owners/operators. The Hoch-Shanahan Dining Commons was certified as LEED Silver in 2006, as was Drinkward Residence Hall in 2016. The Frederick (’64) and Susan Sontag Residence Hall earned general LEED certification in 2005. The R. Michael Shanahan Center for Teaching and Learning was the first campus building to earn LEED Gold status in 2013.
