A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
HACC participated in RecycleMania 2012 and similar events (Coke sponsred), competing against local colleges and has placed first in waste diversion. Each campus participates in a recycling program, including the following: donations of fluorescent light bulbs to Habitat for Humanity; all campus electronics are recycled; Styrofoam recycled w/Dart Container (local company); all glass, plastic, paper, newspaper, cardboard, and aluminum recycled. Harrisburg campus has a receptacle for magazine and glossy paper recycling, proceeds of which go to the Ronald McDonald House at Hershey Med Center. Gettysburg Campus donates all profitable recyclables to the local mission. Investments in the purchasing of recycling receptacles has been made by HACC and the Student Government Associations. Upgrading of recycling receptacles is an on-going effort.
