A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
Aunt Flow produces biodegradable/sustainable hygiene products for menstruation, and with support from Hanover College's Panther Emergency Fund, we will be begin a pilot of their products (free of charge to students) in a classroom building, Student Center, and our Athletic Center. This is to promote both gender equity and sustainability, and has been requested by our college's PanHellenic group and Feminist Club. This is a pilot project beginning in January 2023, with additional dispensers going to resident halls/Greek houses later in 2023.

Since 2019, Hanover's Office of Student Life has provided a Community Sale after graduation as a means of keeping discarded items after move-out out of landfill(s). The sale is open to both the campus and larger community: the college supports many low income residents through this sale. A food pantry is also available, and may be used by anyone at the sale as needed. This occurs every year and is staffed by student/campus employee volunteers, with all donations coming entirely from the campus. Anything we do not sell goes to Habitat for Humanity or Salvation Army in Madison, IN.

Hanover will begin hosting in April 2023 a sustainability/ecological stewardship retreat for high school students from a large affiliated congregation in Indianapolis. Hanover College and community members will host students/parents/alum in their homes for the purpose of cleaning up area trails (campus and larger Hanover) over a weekend in April. This will be a regular event each Spring that also includes environmental education.
