A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
The College's Environmental Committee works with the Orientation Committee to incorporate sustainable education into orientation. Orientation student leaders talk with incoming students (including transfer students) about recycling, composting, and trash collection. They are given stickers to go on their reusable water bottles. At large meals during orientation we use compostable products, and include an educational component so that students can learn about the process.
Sustainability is always a prominent theme in official welcome given by college president Jonathan Lash.
Tours of our Farm Center and the Kern Center (our Living Building the is net zero energy and water) are offered to new students and their families.
Incoming Fall 2016 students were given LED lightbulbs, in exchange for their incandescent or CFL bulbs, an initiative of the Sustainability Revolving Fund.
Note: Transfer students are included in all orientation activities
