A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
All Dining Service, Building Services, and Grounds services staff receive training on the internal composting process at Gustavus. Dining Services staff training includes instructions on separating pre-and post-consumer organic and compostable materials using an internal sorting system. Building Services staff are trained on compost collection processes, contamination and accurate sorting. Grounds staff receive training on using the industrial composter on site and utilizing the finished compost. The training on composting covers multiple dimensions of sustainability since it illustrates a closed-circle approach to waste management that benefits the college’s employees and students financially and socially via the many benefits of composting on-site.
