A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Yes, first year students participate in a sustainability lunch during orientation, in which their orientation small group leader (a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student) leads discussions around composting and reducing waste on campus, participating in sustainability events, energy saving measures in their halls, and other sustainability topics, including the broader dimensions of sustainability (social and economic). This also demonstrates how sustainability works in the Cafeteria (point out what’s compostable, how to reduce food waste, etc) during the lunch. There are slides with campus sustainability facts running on large screens during the lunch as well.

There is also an online sustainability training module that all incoming students were sent and asked to complete before arriving on campus, however it is not mandatory.
