The Diversity Action Committee coordinates the work of the Diversity Plan and advises and makes recommendations to the President of the College, Vice President and Academic Dean, and other governance units on matters related to diversity, substantive equality, and cultural pluralism. The Diversity Plan seeks to enhance the sense of community, promote substantive equality, and strengthen cultural pluralism. Cultural pluralism is defined as a condition of community in which numerous distinct ethnic, religious or cultural groups interact constructively. It strives for a diverse College and an atmosphere of acceptance, understanding, and respect for all members of the community. Substantive equality builds on cultural pluralism and focuses on the acceptance of many identities, desire for inclusive engagement, and assurance that entitlements, opportunities, and access are fairly and justly distributed throughout an organization.
