Guilford College recently designed a new sustainability website that outlines the various projects and programs that are happening on campus. We have organized these different initiatives into the categories of Earth, Water, and Energy.

The Guilford Undergraduate Symposium (GUS) offers students the opportunity to present, discuss, and show their findings in a variety of topics. In regards to sustainability, one student presented on the dining hall's composting bin (The Earth Tub) and the soil samples that were recovered from the vessel. Other students have presented on topics such as the livelihood of local species and the Energy Allowance Program on campus.

Meriwether Godsey is Guilford College's food service provider. In the main cafeteria, organic and local dishes are noted as such with small signs. The entry way is clad with placards regarding nutrition, local & organic food, and seasonal eating. The dining room tables are often decorated with table tents that outline various sustainability initiatives happening on campus.

Every trash bin has an accompanying recycling bin. Whereas the recycling bins have stickers that identify what can be recycled, the trash bins have a big sticker placed on them that reads "LANDFILL" as to remind the community where their garbage ends up. This helps raise awareness about what we throw away and where it all ends up.

We have highlighted sustainability initiatives on our campus using a digital tour utilizing Google Maps. This map can be viewed on any smart phone or tablet with the ability to read Google Maps.

"Green and Beyond" is a column that highlights sustainability news, practices, and topics. This weekly column runs in the school newspaper "The Guilfordian".
