Is the institution currently designated as a Fair Trade College or University?:
A brief description of the institution’s Fair Trade initiatives, including the year formal designation was achieved and/or renewed:
Green Mountain College began working toward being designated as a Fair Trade College during the spring of 2016, with a formal resolution signed by the College's presidential cabinet in May, 2016. All requirements were completed and the College was formally designated a Fair Trade College February 13, 2017.
During the 2016-2017 academic year, Green Mountain College hosted 3 different student initiated fair trade tasting and education events where fair trade items were given out and information about fair trade and the College's commitment was shared. These events included Fair Trade Finals events at the end of the fall and spring semesters and a fair trade Valentine's Day event.
The Campus Dining Hall, Buttery(shorty order evening-only grill), and student run coffeehouse all feature fair trade items including bananas, chocolate, tea, and yerba mate.
During the Spring of 2017, a student successfully led a campaign to have Sustain Fair Trade Condoms available in each of Green Mountain College's residences.
During the school's annual Making A Difference, Making a Living Conference, in April 2017, featured speaker, Chuck Lacy, President of The Barred Rock Fund, spoke to the audience about his various business ventures including Guayaki Sustainable Rainforest Products, Inc., a company featuring fair-trade yerba mate.
