GVSU's Benefits mission is to support healthy behaviors and structural systems that enhance the quality of life for GVSU employees, families and the Laker community. Its vision is that Grand Valley State University is recognized as a leader in the state and nation for supporting employee health and well-being. Employees feel supported to make healthy lifestyle choices and engage in opportunities for a life-long commitment to good health and well-being. GVSU's Work Life program provides information, resources, support and referrals on most any concern that employees experience, whether personal or work related. GVSU supports the theories of wellness, work life and benefits additionally by providing benefit eligible faculty and staff a monetary incentive for participation in the Healthy Choices wellness program.

GVSU has a counseling center and an employee assistance program which provide support for student, faculty, and staff mental and emotional well-being.
