Green Team Zero-Waste Ambassadors

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Zero-Waste Ambassadors are students who stand at waste sorting stations in dining facilities and help assist and educate their peers on how to sort their landfill, recyclable, and compostable waste. Zero-Waste Ambassadors also attend sporting events and help fans determine how to sort their waste.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
Guests are composed of students, faculty, staff, and community members but Zero-Waste Ambassadors are often deployed in areas mainly used by first year students who may be adjusting to GVSU's waste sorting practices.

Housing & Residential Life Programs

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
Citizenship Mentors help engage students in sustainable practices through educational program and participation in events, such as Campus Race to Zero Waste or an Energy Competition where residents compete in a building vs. building energy competition to reduce their energy use in the living centers for an entire month. During this time, resident assistants increase their sustainability related outreach techniques through passive and active programming as well as bulletin boards and promoting on campus sustainability related events (but resident assistants also promote sustainable practices throughout the year, not just during competitions).

Residents living in on-campus housing.

Sustainable Agriculture Project

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
The Sustainable Agriculture Project is a student-led space that provides hands-on sustainable agriculture experiences through peer-to-peer education. The SAP's farm crew is led by a student and they provide drop in volunteer and workshop opportunities.

The target audience is any member of the GVSU community, but it is primarily utilized by students.

Sustainable Agriculture Project volunteer hours are facilitated by interns. Interns work to educate peers and facilitate the growth and development of best farming and gardening practices for drop in volunteers, classes, student organizations, and community groups.
