A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
The Office of Sustainability Practices attends all first year, transfer, and graduate student orientation sessions. Students are informed of the GVSU sustainability culture in Student Housing orientation and in the Student Life Do Something Guide. At orientation, students are provided a sustainable lunch where students participate in an activity to recycle and compost their waste. At Campus Life Night, students are introduced to the many student organizations including the Student Environmental Coalition, Farm Club, and Beekeeping Club. The Transitions program helps students meet new people, get acclimated to campus, and prepare for a successful university experience. All new students are expected to participate in Transitions. Sustainability is one of the topics covered during Transitions. In addition, all students receive a student sustainability guide/handbook regarding the basic understanding of sustainability.
