1,923 students responded to a sustainability survey and 158 students participated in a sustainability focus group. In total, 2,081 students participated in both assessments.

Overall, students were not familiar with the sustainability office on GVSU’s campus. They reported sustainability definitions relating to the environment and natural world. They recognized sustainable aspects in LEED certified buildings, farmers markets and water bottle filling stations. They reported a lukewarm interest in more sustainability-related academic courses, but a large majority said they would participate in more sustainability initiatives if they were taught how.
