The name of the campaign (1st campaign):
Recyclemania

A brief description of the campaign (1st campaign):

RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs in the United States that provides the campus community with a fun, proactive activity in waste reduction. Over a 10-week period, campuses compete in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. The main goal of this event is to increase student awareness of campus recycling and waste minimization. RecycleMania provides many ways to gain recognition, including RecycleMania trophies, awards, and participant certificates.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (1st campaign):

GVSU ranked 106th out of 273 universities in 2013's RecycleMania competition by diverting almost 32% of waste from the landfill. So far in 2014, GVSU ranks 90th in the country for diverting more than 31% of our waste. Recycling amounts are collected by living center so staff know which areas can seek improvement.

The name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
How Green R U?

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Similar to the Sustainable Office Awards, the How Green R U? program seeks to educate on- and off-campus students in sustainability recommended practices by providing a survey that can be filled out. Ranging from water and energy usage, sustainable social involvement, and food purchasing practices, students learn what they are doing well in terms of sustainability, as well as practices that could use some improvement. Through this, students are able to work with each other on making their living center, living center floor/building, and/or apartment as sustainable as possible.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

How Green R U? collects student demographic information like name and living center so we can see which areas of campus are living sustainable lifestyles and contact those who may be seeking resources.
