A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
New student orientation offers several chances for incoming students to learn about sustainability at Goucher:
1. The opening celebration, which features a barbecue, uses 100% compostable materials, giving new students a chance to learn about waste reduction.
2. Members of the Goucher Environmental Sustainability Advisory Council (GESAC) visit dining halls throughout the first few days that new students are on campus. The GESAC members advise students on making dining choices that further sustainability efforts.
3. GESAC members distribute high-efficiency light bulbs to new students on move-in day, for use in their new dorm rooms.
4. Starting in Fall of 2014, new students at Goucher will participate in a day of service, which will familiarize them with ways to get involved with the Baltimore community. This day will feature a sustainability component, such as a community cleanup effort.
