Goshen College’s Sustainability Committee is committed to increase campus awareness about ongoing and possible future sustainability initiatives on campus.

The Sustainability Committee's tasks are to:
a. raise campus awareness and coordinate efforts to enhance ecological sustainability;
b. develop measures of ecological impact of college operations; evaluate the impact of college programs and services
c. recommend financially feasible improvements to enhance the college’s ecological sustainability efforts;
d. promote stewardship of resources within operations/programs; communicate progress towards goals in this area
e. identify & recommend institutional goals in ecological stewardship within the context of the college’s strategic plan.

The Sustainability Committee consists of faculty, staff and students. Much of their work is done in accordance with the projects laid out by the 2016 Climate Action Plan. The members are as follows:

The Office of Sustainability is headed by Kevin Miller, the Sustainability Coordinator for Goshen College, a volunteer position. He chairs the Sustainability Committee to oversee the school's sustainability initiatives such as the Hickory Scholars summer program.

Goshen College’s Sustainability Committee is committed to increase campus awareness about ongoing and possible future sustainability initiatives on campus. The committee is tasked with leading the campus efforts to encourage sustainable practices and reduce use of fossil fuels. The committee trains and supports its student members in peer-to-peer environmental education supporting student-led programs such as the EcoPAX Club, Tree Committee, Bee Campus Committee and Composting program.

Job description for the sustainability officer position:
Provide leadership for the Sustainability Committee to establish and strengthen sustainable practices across the campus and foster collaboration among the campus community. Assess GC carbon footprint baseline and track progress towards meeting the goal of carbon neutrality. Develop, assist with, and improve sustainability efforts such as recycling, composting, biodiesel production, waste management, energy and water conservation or other programs that promote sustainability. Maintain connections with national organizations working for sustainability in higher education, such as AASHE, NWF Campus Ecology and Energy Action.

Other responsibilities include:
Serve as a resource to academic and co-curricular sustainability based initiatives initiated by faculty, staff or students,
Represent the college when the media or other outside entities request information about sustainability on campus,
Help to maintain our status as a Tree Campus and Bee Campus and work towards Bicycle Friendly Campus,
Oversee the Native Landscaping initiative,
Assist and help coordinate STARS applications.
