The major in sustainability studies includes two distinctive Goshen College offerings: the Sustainability Core sequence and the Sustainability Leadership Semester at Merry Lea. This interdisciplinary program includes classes from many departments such as Goshen's Sustainability, Business/Economics, and Communications departments.

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

A major around the sustainable production, marketing and distribution of sustainable food is offered, which includes two distinctive Goshen College offerings: the Sustainability Core sequence and the Agroecology Summer Intensive program at Merry Lea Sustainable Farm.

In the Sustainability Management program, students will learn to understand the relationship between global ecology and the business world, work to find creative solutions for the problems our world faces, and make a lasting impact on the health of their community and world. This holistic view of doing business places equal emphasis on the planet, people, and profit, a concept referred to as the triple bottom line, which has always been a core value of our business program.

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

The sustainability minor draws upon the Sustainability Leadership Semester (SLS) for the majority of the credits for this minor. The Sustainability Leadership Semester is an undergraduate immersion program offered in the fall semester, which is focused on sustainability and regeneration. A cohort of students spends the semester in full-time residence at Merry Lea’s Rieth Village. Students closely evaluate day-to-day decisions and make sustainable living choices concerning both personal lifestyle and community life. They study ecosystems and their functions at Merry Lea and in the surrounding region.
