In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gonzaga University's President released a statement on the government's decision to end the temporary exemption for student visa holders regarding attending online classes for more than three credits. The statement stood against the decision and included a commitment to work with the Washington Congressional Delegation and other institutions to solve this issue. International advocacy

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the international level:
Gonzaga University participated in the 2019 Climate Action Strike for international climate action. An all-campus email went out encouraging the community to attend, with employees and students excused from classes. This "strike" intended to advocate for stronger policy action to address climate change during the UN Climate Summit. During the event, Gonzaga University's President, Dr. Thayne McCulloh, participated for a portion of the march.
