Gonzaga's contract with Sodexo provides for the basic terms of the relationship. This document allows both parties to modify terms and language mutually agreed upon at regular intervals through the relationship. Terms are put into the document in order to mitigate risk, comply with regulations, provide definition and financial responsibilities. The relationship built on this document goes far beyond the formal document. The two entities create a more defined working relationship over time as each determines programmatic adjustments, guidelines and policies as they arise over the term of the contract. The Sodexo Agreement does not have specific language dictating minimum environmental standards. They have never been fully defined or requested to be in the contract to date. b. Based on the provisions of the STARS OP 17 requirement, Sodexo and Gonzaga have over time have mutually agreed to a variety of guidelines provided by both organizations. Some of these guidelines include: i. GSBA resolution to prohibit sales of bottled water on campus ii. The Climate Action Plan (January 2013) – Sodexo was consulted and assisted in establishing the standards and commitments for dining, waste diversion, and sourcing in this plan. iii. St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor. iv. The Real Food Challenge – jointly signed by Gonzaga and Sodexo created purchasing goals and guidelines between the Real Food Challenge, Sodexo and Gonzaga, specifically purchasing 20% Real Food by 2020. v. Various commitments related to the Gonzaga University Climate Action Plan (CAP). vi. Sodexo works with clubs and organizations such as: GSBA, Gonzaga Environmental Organization, RHA, Department of Philosophy, Plant Services and various individuals from Cabinet, Staff and Academics and makes adjustments based on need, feedback and mutual planning. vii. Sodexo Better Tomorrow plan and sustainability commitments which were presented to the University, agreed to and adapted by the University for implementation as part of the Universities solutions for sustainability on campus. viii. Agreement from the University to support local organizations that also work in partnership with the University to benefit the surrounding the Spokane area: Lands Council, LINC, 2nd Harvest, Union Gospel Mission etc. The State of Washington has a minimum wage of $11/hour, which is greater than the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hour. As a University based in the State of Washington, all business partners doing business in the state of Washington, including employees of Sodexo (ZagDining) make the State minimum wage of $11/hour.

The Real Food Challenge (signed in 2014 and committing Gonzaga to purchasing 20% Real Food by 2020), Climate Action Plan (committing Gonzaga to be climate neutral by 2050), and the GSBA Bottled Water prohibition (passed by resolution by the GSBA Senate) are all University programs and strategies that have impacted purchasing behavior and practices.
