Sustainability committee(s)

Does the institution have at least one sustainability committee?:
Yes

The charter or mission statement of the committee(s) or a brief description of each committee's purview and activities:
Gettysburg College is committed to environmental stewardship in all of its activities. In practice, this means we work to enhance and protect the environment through our teaching, research, service, operations, decision-making, and all aspects of our daily lives. As a learning institution, we believe Gettysburg College community members are collectively and individually responsible for the way our actions and choices impact the local and global environment.

We recognize that achieving environmental sustainability is an evolving practice and requires our ongoing diligence. To this end, we are committed to practices and programs that are in keeping with the College's larger strategic objectives. The Gettysburg College Sustainability Advisory Committee pledges to guide the campus process for engaging this mission.

Campus Climate and Sustainability Committee, consisting of 12 members, meets monthly. The committee is co-chaired by a campus administrator and a faculty member of Environmental studies. Students, staff, faculty and administrators are representatives on the committee. The charge is to:
- Raise awareness of environmental and sustainability issues on campus
- Promote awareness of individual environmental responsibility
- Coordinate the data collection, updating and reporting of the STARS report.
- Provide recommendations to the administration regarding future environmental and sustainability policies.

Institution-wide coordination

Yes

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
In lieu of a director or specific department on campus responsible for sustainable efforts, the Campus Climate and Sustainability committee has assumed that role and responsibility. A reorganization of the committee with an established mission from the President has been a huge accomplishment. Coordinating and completing the STARS report for the first time in 6 years will be the second major accomplishment.

Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization (G.E.C.O.) is a student club where students advocate for environmental change, promote awareness, and encourage better sustainability practices on campus through weekly meetings and engaging events and campaigns.

The Sustainability Coalition is a group comprised of the presidents/leaders of all sustainability-focused organizations (G.E.C.O., Painted Turtle Farm, Center for Public Service, Farmhouse, Senate Sustainability Committee, etc.) with a goal of joining forces to reach further into the campus community and achieve further student engagement in sustainability on campus.
