Students are encouraged to engage in independent and collaborative research and creative activity in all disciplines. They may apply through the Kolbe Summer Fellows Program, which supports summer research projects for students working with a faculty mentor. Projects with a focus on sustainability are encouraged and supported, although the program is not specifically focused on such topics.

A brief description of the institution’s library support for sustainability research:
The library's liaison to the environmental studies department on campus meets with classes to create a research guide tailored to their studies about sustainability. The liaison sits down with ES professors creating new courses to help choose textbooks for their sustainability course. Each year for Earth Day, the library works with the environmental club on campus to create an exhibit of all wasted paper to demonstrate how much is wasted to promote awareness. This club also turns old, extra large library t-shirts into tote bags.
