In 2012, students proposed and voted to support a $10 Student Sustainability Fee with a 75% majority. The Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia approved the fee in April 2013 and starting in Fall 2013, the Center for Sustainability, now Sustain Southern has been funded primarily by the fees.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
Sustain Southern’s general decision-making is guided by the Sustainability Advisory Board composed of Georgia Southern University Staff, faculty, and students. Sustainability Project grants which groups and departments can apply for to increase sustainability within their purview. The decision-making process for the allocation of these grant funds is the discretion of the project grant committee which convenes yearly and is comprised of students and staff.
