Undergraduate Sustainability Education Committee:
This committee is made up of faculty members from across Georgia Tech. Their focus is to enhance Georgia tech’s commitment to sustainability via curriculum development, faculty education and training.


Staff Council Campus Physical Environment Committee:
This committee is part of the staff council, an elected governing body for staff members at Georgia Tech. It focuses on topics including accessibility to campus; security and safety of the campus environment; transportation and parking needs to and from each campus and around campus; sustainability for each campus to reduce its carbon footprint.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
The Office of Sustainability is a department of Infrastructure and Sustainability (I&S) at Georgia Tech. Our mission is to serve as a collaborative partner working toward sustainable and equitable solutions for the Georgia Tech community. We serve the Institute in bridging sustainability efforts across research, education, and operations. The Office includes the departments of utilities, sustainable buildings, and the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design.

Key activities of the Office include sustainability data collection, management, and analysis, engagement, and strategic planning and policy. The Office of Sustainability co-developed the Sustainability Next Plan, Georgia Tech’s comprehensive sustainability plan, and led the development and will lead implementation of Georgia Tech’s Climate Action Plan.

The Sustainability Next Plan (and ISP Implementation Task Force)


The Sustainability Next plan is Georgia Tech’s comprehensive sustainability plan for the years 2023 – 2030, which serves as the coordinating plan for all of Georgia Tech’s sustainability efforts. It has three main focus areas: Be a Global Sustainability Thought Leader; Catalyze Innovation Through Education and Research; and Lead by Example in the Practice and Culture of Sustainability. Within each focus areas are detailed strategies and metrics.

Several sustainability-focused departments on campus are collectively responsible for plan implementation, including the Office of Sustainability within Infrastructure & Sustainability, the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems, the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.

In the past three years, key Sustainability Next activities and accomplishments include:

● Developing The Climate Action Plan, a roadmap for integrating climate action strategies across operations, research, and education focusing on climate justice and reducing emissions. The plan development process was completed in 2023 and will be published in 2024.

● Launching Sustainable X, which supports students interested in and passionate about developing climate tech, sustainability, and social impact startups.

● Distributing Sustainability Education Innovation Grants for faculty to expand Sustainable Development Goals concept and skill integration across the undergraduate curriculum.

● Distributing Research Seed Grants to support interdisciplinary climate and sustainability research initiatives.

● Implementing Georgia Tech as a Living Campus connecting Tech’s built environment and surrounding landscape to serve as opportunities for collaborations between academics, research, industry, operations, and community partnerships.
