A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:
ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation: Georgia Tech has been awarded a Level II Accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and the Morton Arboretum, for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. In addition, Georgia Tech is now recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.
Bee Campus USA: The Bee Campus USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in an application, for creating sustainable habitats for pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet. College students, faculty, administrators, and staff have long been among the nation's most stalwart champions for sustainable environmental practices.
Tree Campus USA (Arbor Day Foundation): The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Georgia Tech achieved the title by meeting Tree Campus USA’s five standards, which include maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and a student service-learning project. Georgia Tech has been a recognized campus by Tree Campus USA for 15 years.
Georgia Audubon Certified Wildlife Sanctuary: Georgia Audubon's Wildlife Sanctuary Program recognizes and encourages property owners to enhance their land for birds and other wildlife. Through planting native plants, removing or controlling non-native, invasive species, and providing food, water, and shelter, property owners can provide critical wildlife habitat and create a safe-haven for wildlife and people. Georgia Tech’s certification overs The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design site and the adjacent EcoCommons. We are the first university / college campus building in Georgia that has achieved this certification.
Georgia Native Plant Society (GNPS) Native Plant Habitat Gold Certified: This program exists to recognize the importance of planting, nurturing and protecting native plants in a project’s landscape. The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is GNPS Native Plant Habitat Gold Certified.
