GT Housing Eco-Reps

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Georgia Tech’s EcoReps program supports Resident Assistants in promoting, teaching, and exemplifying sustainable practices to on-campus residents. EcoReps are trained and empowered to plan events and create targeted campaigns to support the achievement of Institute level sustainability goals in residence halls. EcoReps will have regular meetings to create a discussion and brainstorming space with occasional guest speakers from Georgia Tech Campus Services, the Office of Solid Waste Management & Recycling, the Office of Campus Sustainability, and the local Atlanta community.

Kendeda Building Fellowship Program

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
The program is a paid fellowship where students commit to hosting tours that highlight the unique features of The Kendeda Building and explain how the building and philosophy support Georgia Tech’s legacy of sustainability leadership. The prime responsibility of the fellows is to lead tours, with additional opportunities to execute sustainability focused programming and communications materials that further the mission of The Kendeda Building. To effectively lead tours, fellows are required to learn about the Living Building Challenge and how the building satisfies the certification requirements for the Living Building Challenge, which is the world’s most ambitious and holistic green building certification. The fellowship gives students a unique opportunity to gain cutting-edge knowledge in sustainability while educating the general public of regenerative design principles. As part of their training, fellows get the opportunity to connect and network with architects and professionals who helped develop one of the most ambitious and holistic green buildings in the world. The fellows program aims to offer students a level of exposure and experience that will help them excel in their educational and professional careers.

Office of Sustainability Engagement team

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
The Office of Sustainability employes student assistants who are paid and tasked with conducting sustainability outreach to fellow Georgia Tech students as part of their roles. Examples of student engagement work include tabling at the Georgia Tech Community Market, peer-to-peer waste education, collaboratively supporting Campus Service’s student sustainability programs (Eco-Reps, Tech Dining ambassadors, etc.), developing peer to peer outreach materials and educational content, etc. Students work 10-20 hours per week over the course of the semester. The GT campus community is served by this group of students.

Additional programs 

A brief description of all other student peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs:
GT CPC Sustainability Committee - The Collegiate Panhellenic Counsel oversees the 8 sorority chapters on Georgia Tech’s campus and contains a sustainability committee with a chair in each chapter. Each of the sustainability chairs are trained by their predecessor and organized by the Director of Environmental Initiatives on the CPC board. The committee meets monthly to brainstorm events and discuss ways to educate the Greek life community about sustainability. Each chapter chair provides weekly presentations to their respective chapters with the goal of educating on sustainable practices. The committee director additionally provides similar bi-weekly presentations at open committee meetings. The committee also holds campus-wide events such as a CPC clothing swap aiming to divert clothing waste from the landfill and encourage reuse. Their target audience is Georgia Tech students in Greek life. They have 9 (8 chapter chairs & 1 CPC director) trained student educators. This program operates for 32 weeks (Fall and Spring Semester) annually. student educators work roughly 3 hours weekly and 864 hours a year.

Tech Beautification Day is led by SGA and involves community service and educating on keeping campus clean. Between spring 2023 and fall 2023, more than 200 students participated.
