Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Glass Crusher
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Glass recycling in our area has been suppressed by low demand and the distance to processing plants over 100 miles away. The Student Government Association wrote a grant for external funding of a $14,000 glass crushing machine. We were awarded the grant and provided additional funding through the Green Initiative to install and operate the system.
We are now able to collect glass bottles from residence halls and at our campus drop-off facility. The machine smashes the glass into sand, which is being used to augment landscaping projects. We received very favorable feedback on the project from students, administration, and the community.
