Formed in 2022, DC CHEERS is a group of Washington region sustainablity faculty who have formed a collective to advance sustainability teaching, learning, research, and service at their respective institutions. The group was modeled after the DC College and University Pledge Network, which consists primarily of operationally focused sustainaiblity directors, managers, and coordinators on higher education campuses within DC. The Coalition meets on a monthly basis to share lessons learned and best practices for engaging and equipping students with the knowlege needed to take action now and prepare for a future in the sustainability workforce or to integrate sustainability in their daily lives. In the spring of 2023, CHEERS began work to establish a first-of-its kind cross-campus sustainabilty course open to all students at institutions included in the Consortium of Universities of the Washinton Metropolitan Area.
