A brief description of the institution’s green athletics program:

Green Building Cerfitication: The Smith Center, GW's primary athletics venue, earned LEED Gold in 2012.

Sustainable Food and Beverage Program: The Athletics Department uses all biodegradable plastic and/or paper products for all player meal needs, including plates, bowls, cutlery, and cups. Several water bottle filling stations have been added to the Smith Center to facilitate the use of reusable bottles.

Composting: The Smith Center kitchen facilities practice back-of-house composting for all food prep. Student athletes participate in the delivery of organic waste from the athletic facility to compost hauler pickup sites.

Sustainable Turf: All of our athletic fields are synthetic, so there is no water or chemicals used for maintenance.

Sustainable Transportation: Our travel policy recommends use of charter bus for trips over 4.5 hours, decreasing the number of vans needed for longer trips.

Community Engagement: We have had fewer promotions due to attendance restrictions due to COVID.
