A brief description of the institution’s green athletics program:
Green Building Certification: Smith Center- LEED Gold (2012)
Sustainable Food and Bev Program: We use all biodegradable plastic/paper products for all BTT tables and Buff & Blue Games, Mens and Womens Training Tables meals and Mens and Womens Pregame meals.
• List of products we use: (all Biodegradable)
• Round Paper Plates & Paper Bowls
• Forks, Knifes & Spoons made from Plant based cornstarch
• Banana Leaf Plates & Bowls
• Cold Cups made 100% renewable resources, Plant-based Plastic
• Hot Cups made 100% renewable resources, Plant-based Plastic
We work with Development Staff to get an updated quantity of food ordered, same with strength and conditioning with the amount of teams signed up.
Left over food that is pickup by GW Athletes and then dropped of to a local shelter.
Composting- We compost at our kitchen facility
Composting at GW (gw student Athletes pick these items up and take them to the local GW Vegetable garden )

Sustainable Turf: All of our athletic fields are synthetic, so there is no water or chemicals used for maintenance
Sustainable Transportation: Our travel policy recommends use of charter bus for trips over 4.5 hours, decreasing the number of vans needed for longer trips.
Community Engagement: GW has previously hosted "GW Goes Green" games; however, this has not occurred in the past few years.
