In May 2020, the Colombia effort of the Honey Bee Initiative was selected as the 15th best overall social and environmental project in Latin America and the Caribbean by the Latinoamérica Verde Awards. Out of the more than 2,500 programs evaluated for the depth and sustainability of their impact, HBI was selected due to the results it has achieved in promoting sustainable development and the conservation of bee biodiversity in the Santander region of Colombia.

The RecycleMania: Campus Race to Zero Waste Program is governed by a non-profit 501c (3) organization called RecycleMania, Inc. and is made up of a board of directors made up of recycling and sustainability managers from a variety of participating universities. National Wildlife Federation is the manager of the RecycleMania Program, and works in partnership with RecycleMania, Inc. Amber Saxton, a Sustainability Program Manager in the Office of Sustainability, is a board member.

George Mason University is a member of 4-VA, a collaborative partnership among five Virginia universities: George Mason University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. The 4-VA program combines the talent and resources from all the universities to further the Commonwealth’s higher education initiatives. In 2016, 4-VA awarded a grant to George Mason University, Virginia Tech, and Old Dominion, to work on a collaborative study of wetland resilience to nitrogen pollutant loading. The three schools are working together by sharing information and resources that will increase the scientific understanding on the impact of created or restored wetlands on nitrogen pollutant loading.
