Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes

A brief description of the incentive program(s):

A “Green Leaf” course or academic program focuses on learning about sustainability, i.e., meeting humans present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Green Leaf academic programs focus on sustainability, usually including a required set of Green Leaf courses in order to cover the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability. Each is a vital contributor to Mason’s sustainability across the curriculum. The “Green Leaf” distinguish is visible on the course catalog.

Congruently, Curriculum Impact Grants look for teams of faculty, staff, and administrators to design innovative multidisciplinary curriculum at either the undergraduate or graduate level. The goal is to help faculty create scaffolded, intentional programs that incorporate experiential learning and build on the strengths across Mason.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:

Academic staff receive a stipend and professional development. The professional development workshop provides time and guidance to build a curriculum focused on impact and experiential learning.
