George Mason University (Mason) is a state institution of higher education within Virginia. As such, Mason follows and implements executive orders enacted by the Governor of Virginia. From Executive Order 54 (2003): Energy Conservation by State Agencies to Executive Order 31 (2014): Conserving Energy and Reducing Consumption in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Governors have encouraged state agencies to proactively pursue energy efficiency measures. As such, Mason monitors and manages its building energy use through an energy management system.
