A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In the Denturism program (School of Dental Health) a research project is underway entitled: "Evaluation of PMMA denture base acrylic resin waste as reinforcement for virgin material in the fabrication of dentures.".
Professor Deepak Naik is the principal investigator (PI) for the project and Diana Facchini from the Office of Research and Innovation is the co-investigator (CI). Denturism students are working as research assistants (RA's). Dentsply Canada is the industry partner and has kindly supplied all the materials needed for the project.
None
A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
The aim of the project is to investigate the possibility of "recycling" denture base acrylic resin 'waste' generated during fabrication of dentures thus reducing non-biodegradable waste going to landfills from the laboratory and possibly getting a more reinforced (stronger)denture-base material.
