Narrative outlining the data collection process used in the preparation of this report:
The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities Associate Director of Sustainability Assessment oversaw data collection. Typically, data was requested via email with clear requests and any data history and guidance documents attached. Occasionally, data was requested and/or collected in person to develop relationships and improve data quality. All data was entered into the STARS Report Builder and raw data and supporting documents were stored on our server. All sections were either reviewed or completed by Shi Institute staff to ensure accuracy before submission.

Were students involved in the data collection process?:
Narrative outlining how students were involved in the data collection process:
Two student fellows, Summer Marsden and Reagan Ogburn, aided in data collection and reporting, primarily in the Spring 2024 semester. They were trained in STARS data collection using templates and resources on the AASHE website. They were given guidance from staff on who to contact, previous data trends to better spot anomalies, email templates, and how to clearly communicate data needs. Weekly meetings with staff allowed for clarity and efficiency.
Description of the internal data quality controls used in the preparation of this report:
Laura Bain has completed a STARS report for Furman twice before and completes Furman's yearly greenhouse gas report. She is very familiar with academic data trends, engagement activities, and campus operational metrics. In addition to being able to review and compare historical data, data was also supported with reports, websites, or other published materials whenever possible. Responses and data fields were sourced directly from the creators/managers of that data wherever possible.
Were any independent audits or external assurance processes used in the preparation of this report?:
