Since 2001, Furman has required that all new or significantly renovated buildings meet LEED-Silver standards. The university is now home to eight LEED-certified buildings, including Hipp Hall, the first LEED-certified building in South Carolina (LEED-Gold); Cliffs Cottage, a sustainable showcase home and home to the David E. Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities (LEED-Gold); and the Charles E. Townes Science Center (LEED-Gold). The complete list as follows: Hipp Hall- Gold, Duke Library- Gold, Farmer Hall- Certified, Pac Renovation- Silver, Furman Hall- Certified, Townes Science Center- Gold, Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities- Gold, Younts Center- Certified.

Building renovations in the past 5 years include: Cottage (Greenbelt), Cabin (Greenbelt), Gambrell (Lakeside Housing), Chiles (Lakeside Housing), Haynsworth (Lakeside Housing), Ramsay (Lakeside Housing), Judson (Lakeside Housing), Townes (Lakeside Housing), McBee (Lakeside Housing), Office Conversion (Farmer Hall), Idea Center (Hipp Hall), Upper Lobby (Dining Hall), Lacrosse Locker Room (Timmons Arena) and Weight Room (Timmons Arena).
Per our policy, all of these projects were renovated to LEED Silver standards but not certified.
