Has the institution chosen a sustainability-related theme for its themed semester, year, or first-year experience during the past three years?:
Yes

A brief description of the themed semester, year, or first-year experience:

The 2010-2011 academic year has been designated the Year of Global Citizenship at Furman. The concept for this themed year was brought to the university by a group of committed students. The year's theme of global citizenship has focused on social, economic, and environmental aspects of that citizenship. One of the key programs for the year is an upcoming conference on food systems that will take place in April 2011, and feature speakers, workshops, discussions, and other activities. The theme of the conference is the production, distribution, and consumption of food, and asking the question “what does it mean to be a citizen in a globalized world?”
