A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

In 2018, student orientation included a presentation by Energy Manager Claire Rodgers on current sustainability efforts, an assortment of sustainability-related activities, an opportunity to join sustainable organizations on campus, and a healthy snack. The activities included making newspaper pots and planting seeds using Olin's compost, learning about recycling on campus, and talking to members of local sustainability organization Green Needham, as well as other events organized by the office of Diversity and Inclusion. The snack was produced by local farms and bakeries that documented their sustainable practices.

In 2019, flyers were given out in place of a presentation. There were once again many activities, including planting more seeds in newspaper pots, a raffle of sustainable items, and tours of the campus plant and clean tech incubator Greentown Labs. There were opportunities to join organizations like the Eco-Reps, and another local snack was available.

In 2020, orientation had to be held remotely, so the environmental sustainability activities were condensed into one presentation, which is attached below. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator also presented to students about campus programs and initiatives.
