Documentation

A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The total number of courses were determined by the courses offered in the course catalogs during Fall 2020-Spring 2021. Courses with multiple sections were counted once per semester. Cross-registered classes were counted as one course. Courses that students can take at other institutions were not counted and The Olin Internship Practicum, Olin First Year Introduction, and Study Away were not considered courses for this section. Furthermore, the Olin Conductorless Orchestra was excluded because of its status as a performance-based course. Sustainability course offerings were determined by a definition that is a combination of environmental well-being and human well-being. To count as "sustainability-focused", the main topic has to be one or both of these and all projects have to be in the topic, not part of the course or some of the projects. E.g., a course on biology with a disease lens (human well-being) is "sustainability-inclusive", whereas a course on disease would be "sustainability-focused". The course inventory was reviewed and validated by the faculty at Olin College.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted:
Courses that had multiple sections were each counted once per semester.
