Narrative outlining the data collection process used in the preparation of this report:

Our data collection process included the following: 

  • Peparation. In preparation for participating in the STARS data gathering process, team members underwent training that included attending the STARS Cohort program and reading through the STARS technical manual.  
  • Documentation. Worksheets and checklists were developed and saved to a centralized folder with shared access among team members.
  • Identification.  
    • A list of data providers was compiled, which included the contact information of specific personnel.
    • Existing data was identified, based on previous submissions to other reports, such as GreenMetrics and THE Impact Rankings.
  • Communications. Presentations were made to faculty and staff meetings, to communicate in advance the STARS data collection process. Data providers were then contacted via email, with specific questions related to information needed. Follow up communications included in person meetings and emails.
  • Quality check. All information provided by data providers was checked by team members for accuracy and consistency.  
  • Recording. Data was populated using the reporting tool on the AASHE website.
  • Internal reivew was performed in connection with a campus organization, Franklin Francs, which provided students independant of the university's sustainability programs, to audit data reported.

The STARS collection process was coordinated by a Green Office Scholar STARS Reporting Manager tasked with driving the data collection process. Students worked to collect information and follow up with data providers. Students were also involved in the quality control process.


Description of the internal data quality controls used in the preparation of this report:

All information provided by data providers was checked by team members for accuracy and consistency. Once confirmed, data was then populated using the reporting tool on the AASHE website.

Internal reivew was performed in connection with a campus organization, Franklin Francs, which provided students independant of the university's sustainability programs, to audit data reported. Reviewers used the STARS 3.0 Review Template in the review process.
