Description of each sustainability office:

The Green Office Sustainability Programs is a hub working to integrate sustainability into all aspects of the university, serving as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The Green Office institutionalizes sustainability through multifaceted and interdisciplinary approaches, pioneering sustainability initiatives within FUS and beyond.

In 2022, a mandate was signed by the university, establishing a Green Office to promote, develop and organize the university's sustainability-related initiatives. The mandate is attached.

In addition, Franklin hired its first Director of Green Office Sustainability Programs, to head the Green Office and lead the development and implementation of the Green Office sustainability strategy.

Franklin University Switzerland - Director of Green Office Sustainability Programs – Job Description

The Director provides strategic leadership for, and directs the operations of, the Green Office Sustainability Programs.

Reporting to the Vice-President of Finance and Administration, the Director leads the development and implementation of the university's sustainability strategy. Along with senior FUS leadership, the Director contributes to campus-wide decision making and strategic planning related to sustainability.

The Director is tasked with developing new initiatives to help FUS become more sustainable, as well as managing existing programs that have already been implemented. This will include setting targets, developing and managing programs, and assessing and reporting on progress.

Responsibilities

· Engage stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff and external partners on sustainability issues.

· Advocate for change within FUS, as well as promote awareness of sustainability issues and their relevance to the university.

· Advance sustainability initiatives by developing partnerships to achieve common objectives.

· Work closely with various divisions and departments within FUS to ensure that all key stakeholders are on board with the university's sustainability goals.

· Communicate with a broad audience, conveying complex information in a clear and understandable way.

· Educate and involve the full FUS community on sustainability matters and encourage sustainable practices in everyday work.

· Oversee Green Office team of Scholars and Interns, which includes leading and motivating the sustainability teams to complete projects on time and according to the university's standards, as well as providing guidance to the Green Office team to help them strengthen their own leadership skills.

· Supervise and support the annual selection process for Green Office Scholars.

· Develop and oversee implementation of strategies, methods, projects and initiatives to drive the university’s sustainability programs.

· Manage the processes and tasks related to sustainability projects and initiatives; organize the work of the Green Office; delegate responsibility to facilitate implementation of projects; and create timelines, checklists and other tools to ensure projects are on track.

· Develop and administer the annual Green Office budget and manage resources allocated to sustainability programs.

· Collaborate with colleagues across academic divisions to develop and embed sustainability content into curriculum and programs, both within individual subject areas as well as across subject areas (interdisciplinary).

· Assess and evaluate the success of sustainability initiatives and programs, including whether the university is on track to meeting its carbon neutrality goals; monitor and report on progress against targets; highlight successes and areas for improvement; and conduct research and analysis to identify priorities.

· Strive to continually improve sustainability practices on campus.

· Represent FUS at external events and conferences, and contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

· Keep abreast of latest developments in sustainability thinking and practice, and share relevant insights internally.

· Serve as a resource for sustainability related needs across campus.
