An audit of the mechanical plant for each campus building was conducted to assess the spaces served and the energy performance over a defined period. The results established a baseline of energy use for comparative purposes. Energy use is also available on a building-level basis from the university's energy provider for several units on campus.

Buildings and groups of buildins on campus are equiped with individual water meters. The university's office of finance and administration tracks water costs, which serve as a proxy for water usage. The finance office has collaborated with the sustainability office to launch a program to reduce water usage in residential units.

Franklin does have a newly constructed building that is constructed with environmental impacts in mind; however, as we are not in the US, the LEEDS standards are not applicable. Switzerland does have its own similar program, MINERGIE.
