Central Sustainability Website
Yes
A brief description of the central sustainability website (optional):
FIE looks at sustainability from a holistic perspective, embedding its values into its website, working practices and academics.
Whilst FIE highlights 'sustainability', we have moved away from a 'tick-box' process and as such one can find sustainability references throughout the website as a whole. For example, one can find web pages on FIE's Student Switch Off scheme, Sustainability Lecture series, memberships to several sustainability-focused groups, FIE's Carbon Foot Printing Scheme (in partnership with Climate Care), Two-Tips Tuesday, Meat-Free Mondays, and Food 101 Class. Scholarships
All enrolling students can apply for one of FIE's many scholarships. FIE's main semester scholarship, The Sharif Rahman Memorial Scholarship (worth $3,000) invites students to choose one pathway from three topics to discuss as part of their application process. The three application routes have been chosen to complement FIE’s core values.
The first scholarship pathway or 'Route 1' is FIE's 'Diversity or Inclusivity' route, which does by its very nature require students to 'think outside of the box' to encompass an open approach to society. During the FIE semester, the scholarship recipient is tasked to select one under-represented minority group within the student community and put together a resource guide to meet the needs of someone from this group arriving in London for the first time. The completed guide is then meant to assist future students and help raise awareness about that particular under-represented group.
The second scholarship pathway or 'Route 2' is the 'Environmental Responsibility' route. During the FIE semester, the scholarship recipient is tasked with implementing one environmental initiative under supervision of FIE's Sustainability in Action Group Committee.
FIE's third scholarship pathway 'Route 3' focuses on The Marol Academy, which is a charity based in South Sudan that FIE supports. The Marol Academy was set up with a sustainable approach to education in a deprived part of the world. The academy promotes gender equality in education and teaches its pupils sustainable practices relevant to their immediate area and country. The school itself also invests in sustainable resources to run the school. During the FIE semester, the scholarship recipient is tasked to organise a fundraising event that is not only fun for FIE students but also raises awareness about The Marol Academy.
