Conservation Biology (Adv Cert)
The advanced certificate in Conservation Biology at Fordham University is a specialized program designed for those looking to deepen their knowledge and skills in the conservation of biological diversity. This program is structured to be completed within 8 to 11 months, making it an ideal option for professionals seeking to enhance their qualifications or for students wishing to specialize further in this critical area of biology. The certificate program requires the completion of 15 graduate credits. This includes two core courses that provide foundational knowledge in conservation biology principles and practices. In addition to these core courses, students are required to select two electives from an approved list, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific interests within the field of conservation biology, such as habitat preservation, species conservation, or environmental policy. A distinctive feature of this program is the individually designed practicum. This practicum can take the form of a supervised independent research project, offering students the opportunity to conduct field or laboratory research on a topic of their choosing. Alternatively, students may opt for a sponsored internship, working with governmental or nonprofit organizations engaged in conservation efforts. This hands-on experience is crucial for applying theoretical knowledge to real-world conservation challenges, providing invaluable professional experience. Upon successfully completing the coursework and practicum, students are awarded the advanced certificate in Conservation Biology, signifying their enhanced expertise and readiness to contribute to preserving biodiversity and natural habitats.
