A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate, including efforts made during the previous three years:
In 2012, Florida State’s Solid Waste & Recycling department was relocated to a larger facility with great capacities to handle and manage the campus waste streams. In 2013, a new full-time position, in close collaboration with the Office of Campus Sustainability was created, a Solid Waste & Recycling Associate. This position has conducted program evaluations, extensive educational outreach to students and staff, and upgraded the department’s website.
Extensive work has been done to improving waste & recycling work order requests, including improving the ease of requesting a temporary recycling bin for office clean-outs and securely shredding and recycling confidential materials. An indoor recycling pick-up schedule was created and published online, along with educational recycling posters to campus users to post at recycling stations.
