A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
University policy and procedures require all construction exceeding $2 million construction cost to pursue USGBC LEED with a target of Silver certification. University Design Guidelines are in place to assist with building design and construction and sustainability practices expected for all projects. Design consultants and contractors are bound contractually to policies requiring sustainable practices. Appendix L of FSU's Design Guidelines and Specifications require all new construction and major renovation to be designed and constructed to meet the certification standards of USGBC determined to be reasonably obtainable as established by a pre-certification estimate developed during the initial program and design phase. All plans and specification prepared by the project's design professional should encompass and include those standards and requirements established in the USGBC LEED NC 2.2 section check list. The University's objective is to achieve a LEED Silver Certification if practical on each project To this end, a LEED Accredited Design Professional shall develop a program compatible with the University's Design Guidelines outlining potential technologies, strategies and ultimate cost to accomplish certification.
