Through programming and outreach there is a campus wide approach that includes multiple dimensions of sustainability. The Center for Leadership & Social Change Community Outreach Program allows students to explore various volunteer opportunities and learn more about issues in our local community: health, hunger & homelessness, youth development, diversity, persons with special needs, local food & gardening, migrant education, and elder care. Outreach programs are fully funded and supported through CLSC: www.thecenter.fsu.edu Students work directly with community organizations to identify needs, develop long-last relationships, and facilitate volunteer groups.

A brief description of the institution's transformative sustainability partnership(s) with the local community:
FSU has created transformative partnerships through our multiple centers, institutes, and engagement programs. Through the Division of Student Affairs, The Center for Leadership & Social Change serves as THE outlet for community engagement since the 1990's. With over 40 programs (and 30+ support staff), the Center provides space, resources, and opportunities for students and community organizations to build close relationships over time which has led to a co-educator model for student learning and development. Numerous programs follow this method - Nonprofit Internship, Youth Programs, PeaceJam Southeast, etc. http://thecenter.fsu.edu/ Sustainable Campus programs with transformative outcomes include Chuck it for Charity and the Food Recovery Network. Both programs simultaneously serve multiple sustainability and social issues by address community needs through re-examination of campus operations and how "waste" is defined. Both programs capture food and durable goods before disposal, to support the on-going missions of our local community agencies. For all programs, stakeholder groups are identified by need and available resources. Institutional support comes in multiple layers - funding, staff support, release time, and infrastructure for engagement.
