A brief description of the institution’s participation in an external network of anchor institutions:
Florida International University is a member of the South Florida Anchor Alliance (SFAA). Since its adoption, the South Florida Anchor Alliance has put into action systems to address supplier diversity. South Florida Anchor Alliance’s South Florida Regional Market Place is designed to help local small and minority-owned businesses access more contracts and opportunities with the anchors. The South Florida Anchor Alliance’s Workforce Development investments address the nursing and allied health workforce crisis in South Florida by supporting a multifaceted student success initiative to enhance retention and completion rates of students.
Florida International University is involved in many of the South Florida Anchor Alliance’s initiatives. The South Florida Anchor Alliance has launched various pilot programs to advance their work. This includes an incubator program for minority-owned businesses at Florida International University designed to help entrepreneurs become more resilient and equip them to land contracts with large anchor institutions. https://startup.fiu.edu/startup-fiu-procurement-incubator-application/
Florida International University is also involved in the Regional Marketplace which was launched by the South Florida Anchor Alliance. The Regional Marketplace is a shared digital platform that aims to help local, small, and minority-owned businesses access contracting opportunities at regional anchor institutions. The Regional Marketplace is designed to make this process easier, more accessible, and more inclusive.
