1st campaign
A brief description of the campaign:
The weekend of July 16th and 17th, 2022, the Office of University Sustainability hosted a Miami-Dade County Adopt-a-Tree event. All students, staff, and alumni were invited to attend, and it was open to the community. Students and Office of University Sustainability staff helped with the event from set up to close.

The Adopt-a-Tree program is designed to strengthen the condition of Miami-Dade County’s tree canopy. Trees that were left after the event were donated to FIU for Nature Preserve plantings.

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
With the Plastics If You Ask campaign, food vendors removed all plastic straws, cup lids, and bags from the dining counters and made them available only upon request. Several student groups such as the Student Government Association and the Honors College Green Campus Initiative were involved in the campaign as were the Faculty Senate, the Office of University Sustainability, and Panther Dining, among others.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Since Panther Dining initiated the Plastics If You Ask campaign, more than 5,700 reusable cups and 600 pieces of silverware have been donated to the FIU community. Wrapped single-use silverware and plastic bags have been removed from some locations and the use of straws and lids has been reduced.

Give and GoGreen is a waste reduction and charity donation program that keeps items out of the landfill and puts them to good use in the local community. Clothes, household items, and furniture have been donated to Miami Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity, and Goodwill.
Annually, FIU celebrates Earth Day with a week's worth of activities. Various environmental student organizations, academic centers, and administrative departments collaborate with the Office of University Sustainability to host events centered around celebrating the planet and encouraging education on environmental issues.
