FIU is proud of our Multicultural Programs and Services (MPAS) LGBTQA initiatives that strive to reduce homophobia and heterosexism on both campuses through education, advocacy, and awareness. The program contributes to an open campus climate that is safe and accepting for all members of the University community regardless of sexual orientation. LGBT initiatives include LGBT 101 presentations, a program designed to educate students about and sensitize students to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered/sexual individuals.
FIU has an Access & Equity Committee appointed by the University President that functions to inform the President of issues of concern, and to identify and resolve issues of concern for the campus community where possible. The GLBT Subcommittee is one of the Access & Equity subcommittees. Each year, the GLBT Subcommittee identifies specific projects on which to focus, and follows up on these university community projects through periodic meetings.
