A brief description of the program:
Give and GoGreen is a waste reduction and charity donation program during student housing move-out week at the end of Spring semester. Students drop unwanted items into marked bins located in the lobby of each of the residence halls. The program was piloted in 2011 with great success and has continued to grow each year as it becomes ingrained with the students. This program is run by the Office of University Sustainability, Housing Facilities and Housing & Residential Life, and Facilities Management Recycling & Custodial Services.
During spring 2013 over 6,000 pounds of clothing, household items, and furniture was donated to the Miami Rescue Mission. Over 56,000 pounds of furniture being replaced by Housing was donated to Habitat for Humanity and Goodwill. Total for Spring 2013 is over 62,000 pounds.
